Good afternoon painters.
Perfect English weather for painting!
I'm painting a large pirate bust and would like to create
a realistic hairy arm/chest look.
Any suggestions.
Cheers and keep painting
Jonathan

For large scale, I use sharpened coloured pencils, depending on the hair colour, tailor the pencil colours to that. Use several different shades for the realistic effect. Remember to stroke the pencil in the same direction as what would naturally happen on your arms and chest.
Here is a link to my latest kit with chest and arm hair done this way. Hope it helps

I tried this experiment with adding texture for hair some time ago and it came out like this~
It's made from shredded scourer pad,...wouldn't imagine it would work for arms, but ok for super hairy chest on a very large 1/5th bust.

Excellent fellas!
Mark, who produced the 1/5th gladiator?
Can't say as I've seen this one before.
Thanks again
Jonathan

Bottom line is that you can paint each hair on individually with a very fine paint brush, or you can paint a smear of dark colour to create the impression of hair.

For large scale figures, every hair needs to be visible and painted either by brush or by pencil.
