Painting hair

hello everyone,

just joined this forum and I am very impressed by the level of discussion/knowledge. I have (re) started painting 1/35 figures after many many years of absence (eventually I will post pictures, eventually)...and I face a few problems...first one:
how do you paint hair in a realistic way? using enamels or acrylics...not all germans were blond...not all french are dark haired... any tips are welcome...
I'll keep my other (basic) questions for later, once I have gone through the extensive amount of info available here...

Welcome to the Planet Jean. I use enamels when I do hair starting off with a dark base coat and then after drying, use a much lighter color and dry-brush accross the hair (much like going accross the grain of a piece of wood) lightly with the dry-bush color just hitting the top strands. Hope this helps

I quite often base with Humbrol Chocolate and then use Floquil rust or even as light as khaki, depending on how light I want it to appear. For an older, graying figure, I start out with a base of dark gray and dry-brush with light gray and highlight with white very softly, going accross the hairs at the highest points.

I will try tonight, as a fact last night I took out humbrol chocolate for a try and then hesitated...didn't want to ruin a resin figure so I decided to be patient...

will let you know...

Here you can see a middle aged male with the dark chocolate brown base with rust dry-brushed next with a final white highlighting to add even more age to the figure.
btw.......animal skin hair is done in the same fashion.
