Hello fellow modelers. I am looking for a good link for paint 54mm Napoleonic gold braids and saddle work. Many Thanks in advance

Gold braid is actually pretty easy if you're painting in acrylics.

I use the following:

Base, Flat dark earth or a Medium brown

Base + Medium Skin Tone,

Add Sunny Skin Tone to the above,

Add Golden Yellow

Use Basic Skin tone for the final highlight.

Shadows: Add German Camo brown to the base.

Mike

Not sure about a link to the saddle. I did some WIP's a while back on on a mounted Nappy

Danilo Cartacci has an excellent SBS on painting gold braid for Napoleonic figures in his book, Painting Miniatures, which doesn't use metallic but looks very realistic.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn how to paint miniature figures and busts.

That book is never far from my bench! I reference it all of the time.

This book is one of my figure painting Bibles. An absolute must have.

Thank you everyone for your input. Here's where I've gotten so far. Pretty satisfied:)

Yes the braiding looks great on all sections of the figure, I am sure you are pleased with it, I find that sometimes when I paint metallics that they dont look good until you add other colours around them and this tends to enhance their appearance and the effect that you have obtained here is very nice indeed.
