Painting oils on to acrylics

Hi Guys
Can you paint oils onto acrilics story having a bit of a brain f----t at the moment

Don't see why not I've used Humbrol metallic paints for ages with no problems, only time I'm ever had a problem was Tamiya acrylics with Citadel acrylics as here http://www.planetfigure.com/threads/well-f-k-me.49472/

I prefer Humbrol but there is no prob using acrylics

Chris, Like Steve. I have mainly used an Acrylic base, capped with oils. and enamels. The bad old days of 'flaking paint', seem to be a distant memory, as the 'Quality/ Adherence', of todays acrylics has much improved.

Used to paint in oils with enamels years ago had a long gap from the hobby and came back and started with acrylics , enough excuses my memory has gone lol

I think we all did ! as there was not very much choice back then. LOL.

Yes used Humbrol as base, usualy a tone lighter than the final colour, last highlights with pastel powders, like here :

Oils over acrylics is the way forward and quicker, as you don't have to wait for the enamels to dry.

Cheers fellas really do appreciate the feed back , do you use white spirit or other medium to thin ,I think I use to use white spirit ?

Hi Taff

For flesh tones I don't thin the oils at all, so you get a nice sheen to it.
For all other areas I thin it down with W&N Sansodor.

Personally a quality 'Turpentine', would be preferable, to 'White Spirit', ... Ohh but the smell it causes ! lol. I have had more than one flea in my ear, from the 'Obergefreiter'. ...

That's why I use Sansodor, it doesn't cause a stink.
