I was anxious for to paint my last sculpture: The midshipman of Miniaturas Fortes.
Let's start preparing the base and placing the figure. I always use wire to secure the figure onto the base.

I decided to mount the body and head with the aid of epoxy glue and cyano. Left the arms and dirk aside to glue them later.

After masking the base, I primed the figure with Citadel black spray:

I will also follow this as well. I was thinking about painting the head separate and having the arms on first.

Thanks for looking!

As a general rule, I try to glue as much as possible. The only rule is not to obstruct the brush work.

The problem of being sculptor, caster, photographer of my figures is that there is much time between painting. Sometimes I feel my painting skills a bit oxydized .
I grab my paints and try to remember some adequate mix . The paint was so old that I have had to use pliers to open some bottles. Fix a piece of paper palette and start the painting...

As usual, I aply a general flesh colour and paint the eyes:

This time I have made all the mixes on the palette. Some would say that it has been an instictive tecnique, others would say a bit caothic ;)
But I'm quite satisfied by the moment:

Tomorrow I will refine some details. It's enough for today.

My thoughts exactly Diego. I don't have a level of skill as of yet to paint the face when its so close to the collar. Yours of course looks fantastic even at this early stage.(y) I'll have to try this when mine arrives.

I usually paint in enamels/oils, using acrylics to block in large areas. I undercoat using white or light grey and occasionally desert sand (either Humbrol or car primer from an aerosol). Why do most users of acrylics (my son included) undercoat in black?

Thanks for the comments.

I have been an oil and enamel painter too. Years ago.
When I begun to paint in acrilics used to prime with Citadel Skull white. It is a good base to paint. I have found some advantages priming in black, the main one is that you have the hard to reach zones painted in black in advance. ;) On the other hand, the painting seems to show the results more quick than when painting in a light base.
