Hi all,

I am about to paint Ray Lamb's FH/1 90mm French Hussar, 1st Regiment and was wondering what colour should I use to paint the uniform. I am using Andrea acrylic paints. The figurine can be seen painted at this location: http://www.historexagents.com/web/pm/fh1.html. Any help would be greatfully appreciated.

Thanks in advance. ;)

Donald, the 1st Regt had light blue uniform with white braid and red facings. Does that help?

Hi slaj,

Yes, that does help me - but I just wanted to ask what colour using Andrea acrylics would be best for the uniform? Andrea has a few blues that come close to the uniform colour but I'm not sure which one to use. Thanks again for your kind help - very much appreciated.

Kind regards. ;)

Hello Donald!

I wouldn't mind very much abt the exact shade of blue. At those times cloth was dyed much darker colour that was specified to regiments uniform or facing colour. This was cause colours faded quickly due weather etc. Some colours faded much quicker than others. So your 1st hussars uniform colour could be very light sky blue if it's not new and when new almost royal blue and everything between em.=) If you can get access to John R. Elting's "Swords Around A Throne" book, there's much more info abt this and everything else abt Napoleons Grande armee.

Cheers Mikko

Well said Mikko. I don't believe you should go to a straight from the bottle blue. Mix around and experiment. Show us what you did and we go from there.
