Hi All,
I would like to know if there are any good tutorials, video's or posts showing how to paint clothing which is black in colour, including mixes and techniques! I have a basic idea how to do this, but two of my figures in my Rorke's Drift scene need to be in black and I would like to think will your help I could paint these to the same standard of the other uniform's which I am comfortable with.
cheers

O Crap, lol....since I live in Texas, I won't be making that club meeting. I have Stefano's death hussar on the work bench. Would someone mind continuing this thread with black cloth. I prefer oils but will resort to acrylics if needs be. Enion? Anyone?

Hi Richie. I don't paint a lot of black but I would base in a mix of black and some flesh or leather to bring it to a warm grey. Then build up highlights with more flesh and shade down with more black, perhaps with some green, umber or purple mixed in to avoid going jet....I don't think you want jet black for clothing even in deep shadow given it was likely faded and dusty/dirty in Zululand. I would do seams and very deep shadows with inks of the colours already noted.
