I have been trying without any success to paint the Parachute Harnesses on a couple of my models, the problem is the stitching in the centre of the straps, is there any method that people use to ensure a satisfactory finish as mine always seem to have quite a few of the stitches to big or to small, any assistance would be greatfully received.

Hi Carl,

Try using your finest brush to paint a thin line of greyish coloured OIL PAINT (you'll see why it has to be oils in a second) down the centre of the harness strap. By using oils, you can then use a thinner- dampened brush to manipulate/trim the line to an even, appropriate thinness before it dries (acrylics dry too fast for me). Then, use the same thinner dampened brush to remove small bits of the line at regular intervals, leaving behind a reasonable facsimile of a stitched line. If you're like me, and you botch the job the first time, you can remove the whole line and try again (ask me how I know this:)) and again and ...

Here's the technique on an Ultracast 54mm pilot I did a while back:

Hope this helps,

Brian

Hi Carl,
You could make a former cut to the correct length and width, dip this in your paint and use it like a printing tool!
cheers
Richie
both good ideas

JimmyOC I'm thinking of repainting the Youngs bust of the American Airbone soldier, and am also considering ordering the 200mm figure of the American Airborn figure from Gordon Mtichell. Not any British Paras to paint :(

Could you not use a small strip of magisculpt or similar cut into sections ? that way if you have both the eyes and the patience you could even texture it to look like it was stitched or would it be way over scale ? Incidentally that's rather a nice sculpt Carl not seen it before

Swralph mentioned printing some onto decal paper, I have never heard of this before, where can I obtain some and also do I need to use a special printer ? Looks like the easiest option for me. I have just ordered the 200mm Maurice Corry USAB from Gordon Mitchell (first rate service) and I want to do the figure proud. Thank you.
