That Maya is a lovely piece of sculpting by Jula... but looks wrong as to build. Another European-proportioned figure with an ethnic face?

Gotta wonder if he's about 75mm tall too, to compound the problem.

This is a perfect example of what we were discussing over in the new Young thread. This figure is "inspired" from a movie character as well. And from what I know of the movie (Apocalypto, I own it and happen to like it quite a bit) the guy who played this character was an above average sized guy, certainly for the ethnicity and time period he was representing in the movie. Not typical for the actual time I'm sure, but as represented here, fashioned after a movie character, it is spot on!
Oh, and I like the bust quite a bit as well!

Aha, I suspected it might be (haven't seen Apocalypto yet).Sambaman said:This is a perfect example of what we were discussing over in the new Young thread. This figure is "inspired" from a movie character as well.
We do - that's what archaeology is forErnest said:My personal opinion is that Mayas in that period of time didn't look so big and strong... but who knows...
Finding fault where there is fault should not even rate a comment.MattS said:Seems like one could find fault with any figure if one tried hard enough.
Those are very good but the 1/35 figure looks like my 1/16 spz abt 503 I sculpted years ago

There's absolutely nothing wrong with critique where it's appropriate - quite the reverse in fact, if a figure of Goering doesn't look like the man and nobody mentions it it just becomes the elephant in the room!
As many have said before, the hobby would benefit in numerous ways from developing a more discerning culture.

I could say the same Matt Given I'm sure that's not how you intended it I think we can both see how condescension is often found in the reading and not in the writing.MattS said:Not sure if you realize this, Enion, but you come off in your reply to me just then as a little condescending.
