I really enjoyed painting this as it was a departure from my usual subjects. Had some trouble painting the large area of the cape but I think it turned out ok. All done in acrylics except for the wood grain on the axe handle done in oils. Any and all comments welcome

Paul, from what I can see from the pictures, you have done a goo job.

Keep up the good work and Merry Christmas.

Cheers
Roc.

Paul, The figure looks okay to me. I'm sure large areas can be difficult to do, especially where there might be little in the way of folds/creases.~Gary

Paul,

Your painting looks good. But in my opinion you can do more shading and highlighting. Specially on the cape everything seems the same color to me.
But i can be wrong because the picture is taken outside.

Great work, Paul, really like your reds. Could you spare a tip?

Hi Nemanja,

Here is how I paint red. All paints are Vallejo Model Color

My base is VC-908 Carmine Red.
Shadows are made with Base and VC-589 Black Red.
Highlights are Base and VC-956 Orange.
High Highlights are Base, VC-956 Orange and VC-953 Flat Yellow

I just add drops of the highlight or shadow color until it looks right. I dilute with a few drops of water until I get a consistency like milk. Once you get the hang of the acrylics, the texture becomes just as satisfying to use as oils once were for me.

Please let me know if you need any further detail. I'd love to give back to the Planet as I have taken so much.

Hi Paul,

Lovely work. I'm currently working on this piece myself, so I'm really grateful to you as you've given me some great ideas.

I've bookmarked your red mix for future reference, as I'm using Brett Avant's red mixture (per Colorado Minis).

Cheers
Rudi
