No apology Des..it’s not a competition. I agree that the piece could be an effective competition opportunity. NMM is cool, but with metallics, and oils would look different again...to show my bias!

I know just kidding. Most people on here know what I'm like and know when to take me seriously.
As an oil painter through and through I can't get my head round this 'new' 'two dimensional' style of NMM painting. When the old school style of NMM is done by guys like David Soper (Sprocket) and Alex Varela (Iguazzu) it's nothing short of superb.
When you examine this bust it's not in my opinion one of Ninos best works but there's so much opportunity for painters to express themselves with it.

I agree with you Derek..the best artists could paint with their thumbs and still tell a story and create captivating illusion ..Nino does some amazing stuff as I found checking out putty and paint, usually toward the fantasy genre I so like

I like the skull helmet more but what really catches my eye is how the shield frames the figure.

Angus Mcbride did some evocative illustrations...almost Wyeth style..dramatic without somehow coming across as angry violent..hadn’t known of him so thanks for the reference

Nice wee figure and like Del says see it as what it is and not what it isn't, if it looks good paint it.
