Nice red Hardy,
Did you read the articles of Gary about wornout clothing??
What did you used for it: Vermiljoen or cadmium red light, maybe some mix.

I really like this wornout redcolor.
Marc

Thanks all.

Yes Samuel you are spot on. Sorry not to meet you at W.E, are you going to Euro?

Hardy

Here is where I am now.

Hi again, going to the Euro this year is difficult, but I will try that some friend represents me with my figures.
The red colour in your figure is amazing, I like it very much!
Regards

Samuel

Hi Jan, yes your right it was darker. Im trying with mine to depict the results of an arid/temperate climate on him and his clothes. I want him to look tired and dejected after a very long journey, on his return home.....

Hi Marc. Mix was- basecoat = venetian red+lamp black. Highlight= venetian red+naples yellow+cadmium red.Weathering was naples yellow. Lots more weathering to come.

This is what inspires me a lot, masterpieces like this one. Hardy, really fantastic shading:eek:, I like it a lot. Super colours, super highlights, super sahdows, and wornout red is briliant. I am looking forward to heraldy, ´cos this figure attracts me a lot and I think about buying it soon.
Hardy, my big compliments to your painting skills. Hope to see more of your masterpieces and hope I will meet you personally sometime somewhere;)

Thanks Robert, anytime mate.

I have now finished the first of the three lions, when its dry I will wash with a golden brown to give it an embroidered look. Just hope I can repeat it on the two remaining lions...

Man you are damn fast!

I really like the red, very weathered and also the pussies are coming great!

Guess this shall be ready by Euro?! : )

Ivan

Thanks all.

Hi Ivan mate, yes he is coming along quickly. Its the Girona effect and the collector wants him done for then. Hardy

Here's where I am now. The lions are done, just need a tonal wash when they are dry. Now starting the belt, want a dyed blue leather, no references for this, just want something thats gonna look good.
As usual more at www.hardytempest.moonfruit.com

Hi Einion. From what I have read there is far from a general concensus on this one. Yes he is depicted in 1192 and the 3 lions are seen on the seal from 1198, but what came first the seal or the extra lion passant guardant. Did'nt he gain an extra lion from the marshalling of his mothers and fathers seal.

Im happy with it and hey thats what matters. Hardy

Hi Hardy
Outstanding work The lions are brilliant.
I would also like to bring some good news.
Richard was born in1157 and died in 1199.The three lions were introduced in 1198.
So during the third crusade the two lions were used.
So if you put it on a nice muddy ground you will get away with that.
Also as far as i know Richard was a Templar and they were forbidden from shaving durind the crusade.
I hope this will be usefull to you
Ciao
Roberto

Hi Roberto mate, when I decided on the 3 lions I was warned that if I painted them I would be in for some stick. I was also warned that if I painted the 2 I was in for some stick too. I have researched this and its 50/50 as to what it really was. Combattant or passant its just too close to call for me. As you can probably tell the paints dry and too late to go back. Hardy

I know we call this thing of ours "Historical Miniatures" and facts matter but Holy Shinoly who gives a flying fornication if its two lions three lions or four lions when they look that fornicating good! Hardy, your work blows my mind.
Thanks
John

Dear Hardy
in my opinion Richard wore both.So you did well to use the three lions.
Just to make sure you could have him back in Europe after the crusade.
Then it will be 99%correct.1%is for modesty.
Roberto
