One of the greatest actors.
Eli Cross in 'The Stuntman'
Alan Swan in 'My Favorite Year'
King Henry II in 'The Lion in Winter'
and of course: 'El Aurence'

Like someone once said of Richard Burton: "I would've paid to hear him just read the phone book."

RIP

First movie star I seriously worshipped after Lawrence changed my life as a kid. Always watchable, even in some less than worthy vehicles. Like Burton, a scholar on the side but with a touch of madness he brought to most of his great roles.

I've seen him twice on the stage - in "Godot" and "John Bull's Other Island"- and he was effective but the screen was really where he belonged. "Venus" predicts his death and made me sad when I saw it; as in the film, many young people don't know who he was but I'm not surprised there's been so much affection shown for him. We shant see his like again, I'm afraid.
