WIP Critique Piat Gunner 1945 Bust By Mmm/mcm

Many thanks to Gordon Mitchel for this sample of Maurice Corrys lovely rendition of a Piat gunner!

This is a complex and well engineered kit but as it has no instructions I would recommend a slow and steady aproach to building it.

I decided to pin the whole piece before primer to ensure everything comes together at the end without too many tears

So anyway, I have painted the skin areas and will save the last tweaks until I do final assembly and fill in around the wrist.

Also done some work on the helmet and strap, the helmet may need a bit more work but I'll decide later....

Okay so I did the windproof in Dennison and the jerkin in mostly Orange! Mozz has sculpted a lovely texture so I used many thin washes to try and bring it out.

What do you think? too orange?

Also the right strap was missing ( into the mold I suspect ) on the front of our fellow. So I used a bit of rolled Magicsculp to make a new one

Was the distressed jerkin molded that way or was it done with paint only?
It's Brilliant.

I need to learn to do this in Oils.

Looks great Mark! 2 questions for you if you don't mind as I'm currently painting the same bust. The headband around his head?? have you interpreted this as being the liner of the helmet?? It appears you have so I will interpret it as the same. Secondly, were there wind breakers that had Dennison type camo. I have never seen that but I think I'd like to paint mine in the same manner. look forward to more progress on this.

Dan ... yes I had a dig around on google looking at images of this type of helmet and the liners have that distinctive edging strip. The windproof I believe was issued during ww2 in Dennison camo and I found an example on the IWM website ... and this thread is very useful with a front and back shot of a collectors 1943 example
