Good afternoon, everyone,
What you guys recommend for best pigments- weathering? Eg. Mud effects and desert sand.

Thanks in advance.

Regards.

Rod.

I also make mud from scratch using paint, Polyfilla, PVA glue or acrylic medium, fine sand, maybe some static grass.

If I need a dry dust (many dust effects can actually be done with paint) I use an older method instead of pigments - scraping a pastel stick with a sharp knife.

I use several things. I have several jars of earth tone paint pigments that I purchased at a local art supply store. These are available here in the US at places like Dick Blick. They are super fine powders and work great for dusting as well as mixing with mediums to make mud. I also mix them with Celluclay when I use that...

I also make great use of the entire line of Tamiya Weathering pastels. I even use them for some subtle highlighting on figures.

I also tend to use real rock to make my scale soil so I'll typically grind up some of that to a fine powder to to either make mud or more often to dust into a figure to help bring some of the ground work up into the piece for consistency.

Cheers,

Mark
