Afternoon fellow Planeteers -

About 90% complete on this gem of a bust - Geronimo from the Great Chiefs range produced by Pili Pili Miniatures. This is a 1/8th scale bust and comes as a single piece molding - minimal clean up : and I mean minimal. So its a prime and go - no hours of tedium with a file and emery......

I still need to work the face a little and the head scarf ( according to the box illustration ), as this needs a simple black and white pattern added.

All acrilics as usual for me now - I have mentioned before that I use a retarder and this question was posed of me by a PF member on another thread.

My apologies for the slow response to my PF colleague confirming this - I have just read the thread and seen the question.

To qualify how I use use it - Vallejo retarder : approx 10-20% is added to the base colour ( less for lighter colours as it makes them very opaque ). Any highlight or shading blends are taken from this core colour and diluted with water only : no further retarder is added.

Unapplied paint can stay usable for a considerable time - particularly if you stop air getting to it. I cover mine with a loose lid from an old Tamiya paint pot. This negates any re-mixing of colours.

With this approach to paint mixes - I have gone for quite a bold, sweeping style with broad highlights. I like the result but I stll feel there is something missing.....

Please note that these are just iphone snaps and the limitation of this camera is patent as it over copensates for highlights and metalics ( they are consideably muted in reality ).

All comments are welcome - let me kow if you see something that I have missed or a better approach I could use.

Thanks - Dan.

Hi Dan, quite a simple bust and you have done a good job with it....as regards something missing if you wanted to add something perhaps a band of colour or muted white spots on the Kerchief would add interest. Having said that it looks well as it is!
