i thought it may be an idea to post places of historical or general interest.
Buildings, Castles, Palaces, Museums that may be near where you live of perhaps somewhere you've visited on holiday.

I'll kick of one for any Star Wars fans, as I may be the first planeteer to go off planet.o_O

Princess Amidala's Palace on the Planet Naboo.

I'm sure some of you may have visited here and recognized it as The Palace de Espania in Seville, built in 1928

continuing on the Game of Thrones theme. Here is the Royal Palace in Seville, which doubles for Dorne in the series.
I'm told filming will resume there shortly for series 7. The Palace and gardens were very impressive, the only downside to my visit was the temperature.
44c phew...... thankfully a nice ice cold beer came to my rescue.

You could say Seville was local to me at the time.

This is difficult. Yes the , the Colosseum, Kourion, Mayan temples, Etruscan tombs! and untold amount of castle's, all over the place. All have there place in my memory.

I suppose, 'Spinalonga', (The Leper island colony) off Crete! was the most eye opening! Open graves etc. Granted it has all changed now, but by 'Eck', this sight has always stayed with me!

Nice thread Malc.

There are so many places I have fallen in love with.
Here are just three you may not know and all castles.

Beaumaris Castle South East Anglesey.
The last of Edwards North Wales Defensive fortresses and fated to be incomplete at his death it is a mini marvel of design and very pretty in it's moated setting

Beeston Castle Cheshire.

Set on a huge outcrop of rock in the middle of the West Cheshire plain this fortress was designed by one the great castle builders in the style of rhe crusader forts of Syria, ( like Krak Chevalier ?) with banded stone to make it more visible from a distance.
A gorge was cut across the top of rhe rock to form an unbeatable dry moat.

Dunottar Castle, Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire,
This needs little explanation...just a wonderful and
imposing setting

Just goes to show you can't trust those Italian builders.
Spent a week a few years ago walking from the solway firth to Walls end and most of it had fallen down.
mick

It didn't so much fall, more like it was pinched. A surprising amount of local farm buildings have latin inscriptions. :) I used to walk past a Roman temple on my way to school. right in the middle of a housing estate.
