I saw Hardy suggest we start a thread of "Our First Figure" and decided to iniate the thread. After taking a dust brush to the Zouve, I took a quick pic of a figure I bought back in 1972 at The Squadron Shop, in Washington, DC. Don't ask what possessed me to do the base with red too!

Well this is the first figure I did when I got back to the hobby as an adult. First year were merely experimenting with new materials as photoetch, leadfoil, resin, white metal and new mediums like pastels, artist oils, clays etc.

I was so proud of this piece when I entered it to my first competition and was so disapointed when it didnt place. The mapcase is made of folded lead foil and the sandbags are from hobbyaids clay. The fieldphone is made of plastic card. The sign is an enlarged variant from Verlinden and the barbed wire are from electric cord.

Next year I was back with a new figure that I thought I would have a better chance with. Close but no donut. Heres that figure:

Next year I was back, now armed with three figures entering the competition. In my class there were 14 entries and you guessed correct. Mine ended up as 14, 13 and 12. <_< These are the ones.

This result only making me more determent to place. I might be competitive but that only spurs me and I can take a loss or setback. Se the forth year I brought these two pieces:

This time earning me a second and a third place which I personally count as a first and a second. Why, you might asg, well the first place was taken by some mr M Blank.

Come to think of it, I never imagened that I reach my present level when I started this hobby again.

Hi all

As soon as I get back to my folk's place, I should be able to lay my hands on my first figure, done 23 years ago as a 13 year old. Bit battered now, but want to contribute to this!

Rob

Hi Guy
My first figure has long since disappeared, it was the Airfix life guard.
It was having done this one, then seeing a copy of Military Modelling
magazine (which just happened to contain a show report)

Well..........You can either be inspired or demoralized,
Fortunately I was inspired.

That was twenty five years ago, even now when confronted
with the contents of a box I feel as if it is my first figure

mainly because I can never remember what I did on the last one.

I wish I still had my first figure that I painted. Them's was in my flying thingee days . I believe it was the ground crew for the 1/48 Monogram B-17 when it was first released ~75. *sigh*

Hi all!

Got some pictures of some of my very early stuff

Argentine Marine Commando, Falklands, 1982, an Airfix Multipose conversion, made in 1982/83 (I was 14, nearly 15). Lost the end of the gun over the years.

A few scowls at the time from the British Model Soldier Society

To balance that, Scots Guards, Falklands, 1982; again multipose stuff

And something I'm going to strip and redo, a 54mm Chota Sahib offering of a US Special Forces Vietnam:

All painted in what appears to be whole tubes of oil paint!

Rob

I have the Chota Sahib figure wrapped up in a paper towel all painted. Misplaced the hand with the shotgun durring a move. I hope to see some of the first figures that our new members have done posted here.

I haven't got a photo but i remeber what mine was it was a 200mm bust of Robert E. Lee by verlinden. Still got it somwhere. I look back at it now and then when i get frustrated with what i'm painting.

my first figure was ral partha half -orc giant which i entered in my first show mfca in 1979 and got certifcate of merit that was after the airfix figure british infrantryman- napoloenic wars.

Looks good Edson...better than my first one. You have come a long way in your painting......keep up the great work.

Here's my first victim. And he's still a work very much in progress. I started it last November. And stoped last November. So it's been sitting in this same condition, since last November. The shirt, coat, hat bill, and the yellow of the hat are still in acrylic undercoats. Everything else is oils over an acrylic base. Maybe someday, he'll be finished. But for now, there's just too many aircraft and armor to be built.
