Folks, last evening the vBench system underwent an overhaul to optimize the database and ease the burden wighing down on the forum. The vBench forum now contains everybody's posting en masse and will function just as any other forum (General, Painting, etc)

Previously, each vBench member had an assigned forum and when we hit over 250+ vBench members it burdened the database. It also become a full time job just administering thirty different attribute and permission settings for each forum (do the math 30 x 250 = alot! )

To accomodate the individuality of the vBench system, I created a special link (at the top between "Forums" and "Gallery")

vBench

that when clicked on generates a list of each vBench member, with a click on each vBench members name you will see a new page load with all of that vBench owners' projects listed on chronological order.

Essentaily it is not much different than before, just a re-arranging and not any less clicks.

What benefits does this offer?
  • A single forum for ease of viewing the latest and active vBenches
  • A cleaner system of viewing indiviual vBenchs
  • Faster page loading
  • Last but not least ability to upload again!
Last item I want to point out is that at the bottom of the pages there is a pull down menu to set the age of the posts, the default is 30 days so keep in mind if something is "found" change this setting and you can set the default age to your own taste.

Thanks and have fun!

For those who I have posted for in their vbench, the postings are now in my vbench due to the fact that I was the one who started the topic for you. For example, Luca Olivieri's vbench topics are now in my vbench until we can get them moved. Mike Blank, Sergey Zlobov, Bob Knee and Bill Horan are a few of the other members who also have their vbench topics mixed in with mine. This will take some time to sort out and move the topics to their respective owners vbench.

Also, I will no longer be able to post for members in their vbench and each will have to learn how to do their own posting with staff assistance if needed by email / PM.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but as you can see, this has pretty much destroyed my vbench in order to update and enlarge the vbench forum. At some time I will get my own vbench back together and re-link it again to other sites I visit.

Certainly a logical change to make. :) So how should we change the vbench link in the sig? It links to "error" right now. Would it be simplest to delete it and start over?

Cheers,
Wendy

Hi Wendy, the URL now would be as follows (yours as an example)

So first, Identify your user number (1313 in this case) and add it to the URL:
Code:
http://www.planetfigure.com/avbench.php?name=

You can find your user number by hovering over or clicking on your login name above your avatar and looking at the URL write that number down and add it together like this:

Code:
http://www.planetfigure.com/avbench.php?name=1313

Hope that helps!

Looks good to me Gordy, anything that helps smooth the ride can't be bad.
Looking forward to the new changes also.

All the best...and many thanks for a great site..!!

Roy.

Something interesting - my vBench has reappeared! I started it two years ago, but had assumed that it had been removed due to inactivity (understandable). Since this recent change, I can see it again! Thanks for your efforts - much appreciated.
