This may be like comparing apples to oranges.

I see that some webstores sell resin plinths for a lot cheaper than wooden ones. One has to obviously prime and spray paint the resin plinths.

My question is...are resin plinths and bases worth it over natural hardwood plinths? Would nameplates even stick on spray painted resin plinths?

What are some advantages of resin plinths over hardwood bases besides budget costs?

Thanks in advance.

I have used both, the resin are obviously the more adabtable of the two and imo look better for sci/modern stuff. It really is a matter of personal taste though

I think the answer is always going to be "whatever best suits the piece".

Nameplates do stick to painted resin bases and you can spray varnish the whole base when the plaques glue has cured.

The worst thing to hear anyone say as you are looking at a model display is.
"Love the base" but not mention the model they should be looking at.

I really get upset for the modeller concerned, I think it's rude.

So I use all black bases only.

I vary the shapes and styles to suit but I also paint wooden ones black.
The side benefit is a harmony to the display regardless of the subject matter.

I use various types, but do prefer black. Largely depends on the figure going on it, e.g., my samurai chaps are on those nice oriental carved wooden bases, which can be had quite cheaply. Tell you what, though, I don't half fancy those oval bases our Russian friends seem to favour.....

Some are now a mixture of both with wooden top and resin plinth....what goes round comes round as they say....I remember when you couldn't get much other than round or oval plinths. I think you can have made for you almost anything you want these days.
