Over the last couple of days I've managed to get in a few hours with this latest offering by CGS between boat trips on my local canal.
Some of the colours in these photos are only the acrylic basecoats and will be finished with oils in the next session.
I laid in a basic acrylic flesh undercoat on the face using a suitable Games Workshop flesh,a couple of coats normally does the trick for me and I have worked on the eyes also at this stage.
To start the actual painting I've decided on the piece to complete the Czapska first,i again laid in crimson colours from games Workshop and finished these with oils,the oil mix I used was Alizarin Crimson with some Cad red deep mixed in a ratio of about 2 : 1,i darked this colour by adding small amounts of chrome green to the mix,only small amounts until I was happy with the shade colour.
For the lights again I went sparingly this time adding a flesh tint to the crimson mix just to lighten it and applied this to the desired areas.
I added the piping using an acrylic off white to the relative piped areas and finished with some pure white for the lights.
The silver bosses were undercoated with a baroque mix I have from the Dark Star acrylic range,once dry I added cathlights to the corners using Windsor and Newton silver ink.
the black turban and peak have only been base coated,these will be finished with oils as will the white band on the next sitting.
The cords have had a first coating with acrylics and these too will be finished in oils.
The cockade with the maltease cross centre again acrylics have been added and the cockade will be finished in oils.
Th collar and chest areas have received their first coating of oils,i will added a second phase to this to bring out the colour more,so please don't think this is finished.
The plume is undercoated in a black / grey acrylic colour,i will finish this as the last thing to do before moving onto the face.
I'm quite happy with the progress so far but still more work to do yet.
