...1st Regt Guards Lancers (Polish) wore a dark blue kurtka with crimson lapels, pointed cuffs, turnbacks and piping. For troopers the lapels etc were edged with white lace, but for officers silver lace was used.

Care needs to be taken with the officers trousers as crimson ones (with silver stripes) were worn for parade dress, while dark blue (with crimson stripes) were worn in full dress...

I agree. http://images.google.com/imgres?img...es?q=Polish+Lancers&gbv=2&hl=en&safe=off&sa=G

Polish lancer crimson is not pink in any shade what so ever, nor do troopers have white lace it is in fact silver, refer to the reenactment group on yahoo.co.uk polishlancersphotos they have items of orginal uniforms on the site, the reenactment group got the cloth dyed to the orginal colour so its as close you will get to orginal the closeist from a tin would be a madder red slightly lightened
Any references to the colour it goes when faded and/or washed out?

I have been in a " quest for the perfect crimson",and let me tell you that is not an easy task. :-(
I am representing an officer of the Soissonois Regiment, which happened to wore Crimson.Based on somoe text books and ohter sources it was very close(if not identical)in color and shade to the one of the Polish Lancers.

Best regards.
Ps:give it a try and let me know if that works for you.

Not surprising given how much it could vary. From maker to maker, even batch to batch, modern dye lots can be different and consistency is much harder when working with vegetable dyes. Then wear, dirt, light and water would all take their toll.
