My proudest piece...
This one is the first mounted Napoleonic I'd done (bigger than 28mm) since my very early teens. After finishing it, I reluctantly entered it in the first model show I'd ever attended (2012 Guelph Modeller's Club) and to my infinite suprise and pleasure, I was awarded a Gold medal for the piece. I still shake my head in disbelief every time I walk by the cabinet in the diningroom and see it.

I really like this Lancer Colin.
Well worth a gold medal in any competition.
Cheers,
Keith

At first I thought that 'Old Fiddler' is the one for me to pick. It was a gift to my wife, and as Jamie Stokes said, it's a theme that is wonderful and speaks to oneself. But, on second thought I will have to choose ZEUS from Alexandros Models (http://www.planetfigure.com/threads/oct-18-2012-13th-athens-show-31-13-athens.51619/page-2). It won me three awards in the 13th Athens Show. One gold, the Best of Category in the Master painting and the Best Greek. It was a HUGE honor to be awarded with that kind of recognition from so esteemed modelers among so many other talented people! But there is one more reason I will have to pick ZEUS too. Due to a change in the award ceremony schedule, I missed it!!!! Yup! I wasn' there ! o_O So, now I will have to postpone my speech for next year (if I can come up with something even better!), or wait for the Oscars (I must pick up some acting lessons soon) ! :) You can see the full gallery of the 13th Athens Show here : http://www.planetfigure.com/threads/oct-18-2012-13th-athens-show-31-13-athens.51619/

I just dug this moldy oldie out of mothballs. It has been sitting in a box inside a cabinet for the last twenty odd years - so it looks as good as it did way back in the day. The subject is Attila the Hun, a figure I sculpted for Poste Militaire. The horse is an Elastolin plastic horse to which i added saddle and harness.

Hey Brian, I am digging the Navy pilot! That is the first one I have seen painted. Dan, I am digging that Diorama too....... ! (y):D

Cheers!!

Hi Colin,
Firstly what a great thread(y)
To the rest of you that have posted....... WOW:eek: , I sit in awe of you all, you are all very talented guys. I hope one day to reach these standards, it is therefore with great trepidation that I post on this thread.
I don't think this is my finest piece of painting to date and I am still awaiting my best model, but this gave me the greatest pleasure. The form pleasure came in the look on my Dad's face when I painted this for his 85th birthday, as it was he that first took me to see Zulu in the early 70's and now holds pride of place in the middle of his display cabinet.
cheers

While it's not the best figure I've done paint wise it was the first for some 30 years and it completed the other figure my Dad did not long before he died and it made Mom happy to see the set completed, so yeah it's the best for that I did the Empress Dragoon half of the pair along with the chess set

Great figure Mike.
I first saw this fine work in Robin Smith's ' Master Modelers about 1997.
It still stands the test of time.

Wow, like....WOW!
No wonder your "Zeus" won so many awards arxo.
It puts my amateur effort on the same figurine to shame, but does set me a standard of excellence that I can aspire to - over time and with much, much more practice.
I find myself more and more in awe of the simply incredible works of art that are available to view on this forum. It really is a fantastic way to spend an hour or so just browsing through the various posts.

My best model ever was Miss November 1977 but I'm not sure I should post a pic here.
I suppose she's in her early sixties now............:nailbiting:
........
Only it's not so funny when I think that my own previous girlfriends are in their early fifties and probably granny's by now.
Watched a Kate Bush :love: DVD last night, and even she's pushing it these days.
Sigh....

Thanks Mike for the kind comments - I think that this is my all-time favourite of the pilots that you sculpted for Kevin, although I've thoroughly enjoyed all of the ones I've painted. In fact, the Battle of Britain Luftwaffe pilot has been sitting on the bench for a couple of months now, waiting, patiently waiting...

I guess now I'll also be digging the new series from Cockpit Wings, although I quail at having to build an actual Spitfire to fit them in:wideyed: !

Cheers,

Brian

Brian,

Thanks!! Definitely get the Wings figure. There are extra heads in there that can easily be swapped onto one of the Ultracast standing RAF pilots. You could even do one as Malan or Johnnie Johnson. I am thinking of doing one of those myself. That way you could keep the Tamiya kit as an option if it still strikes fear into your heart....

Cheers!!

Oh, great; now I've GOT to try one (or more) of them ;) - never thought of swapping the heads to produce even more great RAF figgies. Thanks, Mike!

For sure this one. It's my proudest piece because I sculpted it and painted him. I also turned the bat he's holding from a wooden dowel on a lathe...that was fun! I love baseball and Babe Ruth is a great character in the history of my favorite sport. I got a gold medal for him at the 2007 Chicago show. He resides in my display case and I still to this day like looking at him!
