Hi Guys,

Here is a piece I have just completed for HQ Model Kits.

https://www.facebook.com/hqmodelkits?__mref=message_bubble

As you can see it depicts a WW1 German Infantryman wearing a big fir coat carrying a Kar98a rifle.

I'm not sure when it will be launched but I'm sure Felipe will post all the relative information when its ready.

As always guys, thanks for looking, and hope you like him.

You've done it again, full of character and well animated.
One masterpiece after another, how do you do it?

Beautifully done! Could be a late war Eastern front soldier maybe? Looks a little old for the active army...more like Landsturm or Landwehr. Ulrich - what do you think?

All the best,
Dan

It is a great sculpted bust ... but I am not sure about some points. Dan, you are right. It must be Landsturm or Landwehr. Never see an active soldier wearing such coat. The problem is that the ammunition bags are under the coat and so you have problems to get new ammunition. The other point is the position of the gas mask container (hope it is right). It is to high. If you want to open it and fix the gas mask over the face you will get many problems. The uniform was wearing before 1915, but the "Stahlhelm" after January 1916. So it could be a member of the Landsturm after 1917. They got often the old uniform parts but very late the "Stahlhelm"

Hi Guys,

Here is the reference used.
I don't know much about WW1 German uniforms. But my guess it followed a very similar pattern to the British Tommy. There was an overlapping of equipment and date. You find images where the Tommy is wear 1914 kit in 1916 or later. My guess the same occurred in the German trenches.
its a constant conversation I have. Soldiers made their miserable lives as easy and comfortable as they could. They picked up used, carried and worn what they could. To make their life a little more bearable, Its human nature!

Hi Carl. I know that photo because it is from a collection of a good friend of mine. But here you can see that the gas mask is closer beneath the belt. And it is a card sending after Christmas 1917 as greetings for 1918. He is wearing a second coat under the fur coat over his "normal" jacket. And you are right that the german soldiers were wearing what they get. Dan and I mentioned only that the guy looks like a member of the Landsturm or Landwehr and not as an active trench soldier. The fur coat supports that.

Hi Ulrich,
Thank you for your reply. I see what you mean about the gas mask canister. I will make that alteration.
I guessed it was a Christmas card, but was unsure.
I accept your superior knowledge about the it being a member of the land army.
The only thing I would say, is some folks may take your comments as the piece is incorrect. Where in actual fact it isn't. Because it's taken directly from a photograph of the time. But I will title the piece to hopefully eliminate any misunderstanding.

Thanks again for your information and knowledge.

Hi guys!
First I'd like to thank Carl for the exceptional service he provides for modellers and producers alike! Carl, you're a real gentleman and a delight to work with. Worth the wait and every penny. Thank you mate!

Well, as Carl has stated, I'll produce this kit through HQ Model Kits. The piece will probably be shipped to the caster in the following days and as soon as I figure the costs out I'll create an specific thread. It'll take awhile though. Between shipping to the US for molding and casting, then back for the box art....yes, it'll take some time.

Thank you Ulrich for the excellent information you've provided. WWI is a "shady" period and being out of Europe makes getting information even harder.

Thank you all for you attention,

Thank you for your reply Dan.
No offence taken my friend. I just wanted to post the image I used for reference, mainly to show the piece with textures of the fir coat. But because Ulrich said he had never seen a this type of coat worn.

Thank you for the information especially the info regarding the land army.

Thanks again.
