I finally got around to finishing off a few of my own figures (after a lengthy commission piece that was demanding my time). Of course you will recognize this as Elite's Culloden veteran. This is a popular figure for very good reason. According to my sources, some of the highlanders made a last stand against the English at a low stone wall, which I made out of some crushed plaster. I'm not sure if thistle was blooming at that time, but I ask you, how can ye' no put thistle in a setting like this?

I didn't put him in any particular tartan, seeing as most of the "family" tartans were invented and catalogued in the early 1800's, well after Culloden took place (see chapter 11 of Arthur Herman's "How the Scots Invented the Modern World", Three Rivers Press, New York, 2001 ISBN 0-609-80999-7)

As Always I welcome your comments and criticisms. Your past suggestions on groundwork have hopefully made this latest effort a little more pleasing to look at, so keep those ideas coming.

Thanks for your comments guys. Concerning the white shirt, I thought the same thing when I looked at the pictures. I can assure you that for what ever reason, the camera washed out alot of the shading. I used Naples Yellow with Titanium White, so in real life, the shirt has an off white appearence. As I look at the figure itself, (beside me as I type) I can't help but wonder if I over did the shadows! I guess we'll have to chalk that up to faulty camera lighting on my part. I am glad you like the tartan, as that's always the hardest part on these highlander figures.

That why its hard to give feedback these days.

Ive seen figures/models that look stunning on the net while I didnt give them a second glance in real life. And the opposite, as figures/models I thought being mediocre at best when seeing them on the net made my jaw drop for a long time at shows.

Another disadvantage is that thery usually bigger on the net that in real life which could be very revealing.

Cheers

I agree with you Janne, I often see something on my figures in pictures that I missed in real life. But then again that's why going to the shows is so much fun, to see the work "in the flesh". I wouldn't worry about the feedback, any comments are helpful and gratefully received.

Thanks Dan, I'm glad you liked it and appreciate the feedback.

Matt, I'd love to see you're version. It's a great figure to paint and the tartan does present almost endless possibilities.

Hello.
Your work is very wonderful.
Painting with the kilt design is clean in particular.
Flesh color also seems good.
The ground work is also wonderful.
I painted this product in the past, too.
Your work is more beautiful.
Congratulations.
