I apologise if this has been asked before ( I have tried searching but couldn't find the answer) it's a very basic question but I have always painted white metal figures in the past.
I am about to paint my first resin fig and I would like to know if it is ok to prime the figure with the same acrylic automotive primer I use on my metal figures.

Roger.

Hello Roger,

I use the same primer ( floquil in this case ) for my metal and resin figures. I have used acrylic automotive primer in the past when Floquil was hard to get and had no problems. I would suggest you let it set and dry (cure) for at least 24 hours even though it is acrylic.
Hope this helps
Guy

You probably know but I'll add to the other comments. Make sure you wash the resin in a warm soapy water to remove the release agent from the resin.
Happy painting!

I use car primer without problems but ensure you allow it to dry thoroughly leave mine for 24 hours - otherwide it will peal off if wet excessively.

I think that the thinnest, smoothest primer I have found is Games Workshop's White Primer. It is kind of expensive (8-9 bucks) per can, but it will last a long time and give a superb finish to paint on. A close second would be Tamiya's Gray Primer, excellent as well.
