Never been a 'Royalist'...but liked him for his frankness...RIP sir.

Phil telling the photographer to "just take the fucking picture!!" at that Battle Of Britain event a few years back was a real highlight (of many) that was captured for posterity for us all to enjoy.

Princess Anne very much her father's daughter and cut from the same admirable, no-nonsense cloth. The contrast with the über-woke, narcissistic Hewitts could not be more stark.

My mother named me after him, me being born the year he married Princess Elizabeth. I have always admired him for his frankness, integrity and for the amazing things he did for his chosen charities and the DOE Award scheme, which benefitted thousands of young people. We will surely never see his like again, which is the saddest part for me. My greatest respects Sir.

Often forgotten was that he had a great sense of humour as well.....used to put people at ease. When I was a nipper he visited Salisbury with the Queen. On the walk about they went past the cake shop where my aunt worked. As they went by he put his head around the door and with a big grin, said “got any stale buns girls, I’m bloody starving”.....
Duty done sir. You have left the world better than you found it.

Oh, in case anyone is wondering, I’m far from being a monarchist. It generates far too many pointless and useless hangers on. However, I do respect those that do the duty in front of them with no thought to themselves, and he absolutely epitomised that ethos.
