This diorama depicts William McFadzean of the 14th batt (Young Citizens Vol.) Royal Irish Rifles winnig his VC on the morning of the 1st July 1916. McFadzean had been distributing hand grenades when the box fell and the pins came out of two of the bombs - he threw himself on top of them dying instantly but saving the lives of his comrades in the process.
The model is mainly made up using conversions of Airfix multipose figures with Hornet, Historex, Aber and Plus Models bits and pieces used where necessary. The miniature VC isfrom the National Army Musuem
