Many, many thanks for the kind comments! This was a fun piece to do. The confident thrust of the jaw and the great picklehaub, how can you go wrong? Thanks again,
hi jay. great work, you have more than likley been asked this a hundred times as i can't find the thread can you say what colours you use for your flesh mix. thanks dave.
Dave, I'm more than happy to make it 101! I have a fairly simple mix, Raw Umber, Cad red, Yellow Ochre and Titanium white. My initial shadow tone has no white, just the umber, red and ochre. I then add white to the base shadow color to get my mids and highlights. I generally use about 5 shades from darkest to lightest and will, in certain places, use straight raw umber for some of my darkest shadows (sparingly). HTH! Thanks for the kind words!
Jay,
Well done, but i think i'm the only neatpicker about the helmet.
I've seen this helmet in real and the black is not matt. No, it is a shiney black. That's my only comment.
Further i wish that i could paint like this.
Andres, Marc, Peter,
many thanks for the kind words!
Marc, good eye my friend! Yes the helmet should indeed be glossy, however I had to make an executive dicission when it came right down to it. I dull coat all my figures once their done to get a nice even flat finish (I'll wait for everyone to stop gasping!). With that said, I decided to go ahead and spray the helmet as well. I knew I would be sacrificing the shine, but what the heck, I rationalized to myself that he was field worn and it needed a polishing by this time! Good point! Thanks for looking.
Hi Jay
it' s always a pleasure of seeing a figurine of my same favorite period if it is the enemy
The realization of this bust is a true success as always (I like your work since the first time that I saw it )
Bravo
