I am hopefull that Einion Rees will come along with the definitive answer but I do not think that true Vermilion pigments are available anymore. I think it had to do with health risk. Winsor & Newton does have a Vermillion Hue available. I have never heard of a Pthalo Red.

From Williamsburg Oil s:

Genuine Vermillion Oil Color The real Mercuric Sulphide. This has become very scarce lately and in fact is not always available. The touches of pure red in French Impressionist painting are true Vermillion. It is very high-keyed, almost orange, but never glaring and is, quite sweet. Health Hazard: Please note that this is very toxic paint. Use with extreme caution, do not eat, drink, or smoke when using this paint. Clean hands immediately after use. This paint is intended for use by professional artists only. It is not safe for use by children or amateurs.

No such pigment as pthalo red (or phthalo red). This is simply a company's marketing name for another modern organic colour, to associate it with the already-popular phthalo blues and greens. If it's the Grumbacher paint (Thalo Red Rose) it's listed as a version of PV19 - Quinacridone Rose or Quinacridone Violet, but it looks like it's mixed up with another of their paints and the Thalo Red Rose is actually Quin Magenta, PR122.

Vermilion.... honestly, it's not worth it to 99% of painters. But if you really want to fork out around 60 bucks for a tube of paint then Michael Harding and Natural Pigments offer it. Both brands are superb, high-end paints; Natural Pigments is American and cheaper too, so you might want to go with them on that basis. But be warned, this probably won't last in the tube.

Williamsburg (another US company) also offer it as you can see but at *gasp* $88 for 40ml. You can also get a couple/three versions from Holbein but they're rubbish so I wouldn't touch 'em with a bargepole :D

Cadmium Red, Cadmium Red Light or Cadmium Scarlet are good enough for most everyone for opaque colour in this rough position, and any shortfalls in how they mix can easily be compensated for.
