Hello everyone and Happy New Year!

To paint this mini I approached it as a 3D illustration, using comic as a reference.

The idea is to project the shadows on the mini as if it were a drawing; that is to paint 2D shadows, just as if I was drawing it.

The first step is to take pictures of the mini under a strong light in order to observe the shadows over the figure and try to emulate them when painting on it.

As you can see, the shadows are quite defined on very specific areas, especially on the eyes, nose and lips, as well as on the arms (from the guns) and the head’s shadow.

Once the concept was clear, the second step was to apply the first lights and shadows over the black and white foundation with an airbrush. After, to emphasize the lights and shadows, I also painted the skin with the airbrush using different shades before start using the brush.

This served me as a foundation to start with the shadows, focusing first on the mouth and nose.

I also sketched the shadows on the breast to use them as a reference for the face.

I continued working on the face, cleaning certain zones and finishing the shadows.

During the next few days I’ll post some more pictures of brush and airbrush work, using acrylic Golden paint.

Greetings to everyone.

Yeah! This is what I have been trying to do on some figures, a 3D illustration. I didn't know what to call it so it was being lost when I tried to explain. I called it a "comic book look". 3D illustration is way more sexy. I'll be watching this with interest.

Cool!, I love what you are doing with the lighting and the exagerated look of it. It definately does look comic like which just adds to this bust.

Hello again!

Many thanks for your comments.

Let’s continue with the painting process:
The next step was to finish the body, focusing on the t-shirt and the guns belts, simulating textures. I also introduced further shades on the face applying half-tones using airbrush and glazes.

For the arms I used the same colors as the face, and applied the shadows with marked brush strokes that I later merged. I thought it was important to check the effect and place the different shades correctly, and later work on the fusing. Notice the head’s shadow on the arms.

Well, this is the last bit of the process for the Punisher’s bust
Thanks a lot for your comments.

Here you have the last set of photographs.
I continued gluing the remaining arm and placing the shadows on both arms on:

To finish with, I focused on cleaning as much as possible all the areas and providing some finishing touches. This is the final result:

Thanks for everything.

I will continue on posting new painting and modeling processes in the future.

Excellent SBS, thank you for taking the time to show us this really cool technique and your pallete. I will be taking some knowledge from this and applying to my own work.
