Hi to one and all ,
Its always a pleasure to be able to be given the opportunity to review new releases but even more so when its from a new company , this is what has happened here ..the company LINJO MODELS , based in China , using sculptors that have in the past worked for other high quality companys in particular from Korea .

The model itself is from the Qin Dynasty so to set the scene lets have a bit of a history lesson on the fascinating Chinese period .

The Qin Dynasty (in Chinese 秦朝) was the first ruling of Imperial China lasting from 221 to 206 BC. It derived its name from its heartland of Qin, in modern-day Shaanxi The Qin's strength had been consolidated by Lord Shang Yang in the 4th century BC, during the Warring States period .

Qin Shihuang also improved the military, despite the fact that it had already undergone extensive reforms. The military used the most advanced weaponry of the time. The invention of the sword during the Warring States Period was a great advance. It was first used mostly in bronze form, but by the third century BC, the Qin were using stronger iron swords. The crossbow had been introduced in the fifth century BC and was more powerful and accurate than the composite bow used earlier. It could also be rendered ineffective by removing two pins, which prevented enemies from capturing a working crossbow.

The Qin also used improved methods of transportation and tactics. The state of Zhao had first replaced chariots with cavalry in 307 BC, but the change was swiftly adopted by the other states because cavalry had greater mobility over the terrain of China.

The First Emperor developed plans to fortify his northern border, to protect against the nomadic Mongols. The result was the construction of the Great Wall of China, which was built by joining and strengthening the walls made by the feudal lords, which would be expanded and rebuilt multiple times by later dynasties, also in response to threats from the north. Another monument built during Qin Shihuang's rule was the Terracotta army .

Moving onto the actual model itself now :

Subject Title: Qin Soldier

Scale : 200mm

Material : Resin

Reference Number : LJ 20001

Sculptor : Chun MeiZhou

Box Art : Man Jin Kim

On opening the parcel that I received within 8 days from China , I found the model to be packed in an extremely strong cardboard box , in a distinctive black with a full colour picture on the front of a painted model , colour representation being first class .

On opening the box up I found that all the box was full with protective pieces of foam which securely sandwiches the 3 cream coloured pieces . there is absolutely no concern with any damage in transit ..all in all wonderful packing .

The model itself consist of 3 pieces , the torso , the head and a pedastal base , there are easily removed casting plugs and once this small amount of work is done you can then admire the quality of the subject which is a fine credit to the sculptor .

Lets have a look at the head first , sculpted wearing the helmet worn by these warriors of the Infantryman , very distinctive , it has been well sculpted and looks like he is wearing it , the facial features are distinctly Chinese and is well reproduced , he has the look of a proud and determined soldier of the Emperor

The helmet pieces are finely defined also with the cords being of particular note , just look at the back view of the helmet, but enough of my words let the picture tell the story , its one of total quality and very high standards .

On now to the torso :

As with the head this just screams quality to me , minimal prep is needed the ties leading from the helmet are wonderfully done , details on the armour is also well done ,. the folds in the sleeve are natural and smoothly done , the shoulder pieces are particularly fine with the undercuts being very clean and tight , no flashing to remove .....everything about this piece will aid the enjoyment of painting this model .

Lets have the pictures to enjoy now and appreciate the fine talents of the sculptors art .

On now to the final piece in the box the base itself and my conclusion:

The base is a simple yet effective pedastal style one which is angled to fit the underside of the model itself perfectly (I would advise pinning it as well) , there is a casting plug to remove underneath but no major surgery or use of time will be needed here .

Conclusion:
Linjo models have produced an excellent high quality model both in the presentation, packing and of course the sculpting is 1st class , subject matter is one which has been much neglected by others and is a fascinating period of history which has many characters from the highest in the land both civilian and military to the lowest of soldiers .

I look forward immensley to seeing more from a committed company and they totally deserve to be given the support with their chosen works .

Very Highly recommended indeed .

In the UK it can be got from El Greco of course at a cost of £30 plus shipping
