Hi All
As you all probably know Winsor &Newton Series 7 brushes are the best, but at a hell of a price e.g. £7 for a 000.I'm always on the lookout for quality brushes at a more reasonable price and i've just tried out a selection of Pure Kolinsky Brushes from a woman who hand makes her own brushes. I've tried out her 3/ooo,10/ooo and a size 2.Series 33 and i've tried a 3/ooo from her Series 323.They hold a fine point very well ,but just fall short of the W&N Series 7 ooo,but the revelation was that the size 2 was and is a brilliant brush with a beautiful fine point. The number 2 she sells is probably the equivalent to a W&N size 1.This happens to be my favourite size of brush (for painting everything other than really fine detail work),as it holds a lot of paint but has a point like a needle.
I would recommend giving them a try ,especially as the smaller brushes sell for about £2.70 and the superb size 2 for £3.06 .
Postage is £1.00 and i received the brushes within 2 days.
Her website is www.rosemaryandco.com and you can get a free catalogue.
Let me know how you get on if you give them a try.

Hi Brian, although I don't paint much, I like their series 305 for underpainting, they are very soft synthetic filberts..but what I mostly use their brushes for (many in fact) is for sculpting..the series 305 and series 307 are perfect for working soft putty or polymer clay, and are very affordable.

I've been using this range from way back when they were known as ABS brushes, and I've always been very satisfied with the service, and the quality I've found is very consistent. Definitely a good range to try.

All the best mate..

Roy.

Since you are in England have you tried Ken Bromley for W&N brushes?
A 3x0 is 5.20 pounds. I used to order from him when the US dollar was strong, I would save on the VAT, and with shipping found the price cheaper than in the US. His service was excellent...they rapidly corrected a mistake and no hassles.

Here is the web page: http://www.artsupplies.co.uk/ci_brushes.php?item_id=528

Thanks Joe for your info.Definately cheaper but the usual £3.75 postage for orders under £40 is a pain if your only ordering a couple of brushes.

Hi Brian just had alook at the web site , great choice of brushes and very reasonably priced. I think the spotter brushes look like good blenders.Maybe we could see who else wants some brushes and put in a bigger order and save on postage. Give me a call . Chers Davie.

Not for a long time now ;)

I'm right with you on preferring a larger brush with a great point, much better than faffing about with a 000! Thanks for the mini review of the Rosemary & Co. brushes, always nice to get first-hand comments from someone whose work you know.

Anyone interested in other alternatives to Series 7 have a look at this thread in case you missed it at the time or weren't here in 2005.
