for the life of me i cant remember if northern ireland patrol boots (not DMS) circa 1979 had toe caps, i think not but does anyone remember? and if anyone has any idea how many lace holes, i think it was ten but might be confusing with doc martens as they were more often than not the preffered choice.
Thanks
maurice

Hi mate, I was in Londonderry oin 79. I dont remember the boots having toe caps. I was always told they were made out of compressed cardboard. ( maybe a squaddie myth). I think 10 holes is right for the laces. I've been going through old pics but its not very clear. I've attatched a pic. Not very clear I'm afraid.

Excellent, thanks Steve, its a shame a lot of the old regiments have been amalgamated, i remember the DERRs. Good pics they are a big help with the bonedome which I`m doing on the figure as well .two heads in the kit one with beret and the other with the helmet, plus baton gun and SLR with SUIT.

That sounds like the figure I've been waiting for mate. I'm looking forward to seeing that. I'm in a bit of a black hole where painting is concerned. I look at the awesome paint jobs here and I lose confidence with my own work.
