1. Vickers MMG
2. Maxim (one of Hiram Maxim's original designs)
3. MG08
4. Hmm......French Hotchkiss, or possibly Italian Fiat-Ravelli?
5. Early Browning?

Very good!

1. Vickers MMG right!
2. Maxim (one of Hiram Maxim's original designs) right!
3. MG08 right!
4. Hmm......French Hotchkiss, or possibly Italian Fiat-Ravelli? French Saint Etienne!
5. Early Browning? Italian Fiat-Ravelli!

Hi Martin, can you tell which types are in this picture... in the early 1920s... H2 Coy., 3rd Battn., Grenadier Guards... my grandfather is there in the photograph too (4th from right in the middle row/first row standing).

Both "Vickers" tipes!

Left: Vickers M1912

Right: Vickers M 1916...:

The Vickers M 1916 was used in WW2 too, because it was a well-engineered and reliable weapon - here during the Africa campaign...:

Cheers

Martin, thank you very much for your response to my question and for the excellent information and pictures you've provided - on this thread and so many others too - I really appreciate that. Interesting that the M1916 was still used during WW2. Though my grandfather had left the Grenadier Guards by then, he was on duty with the Home Guard in Kent. I wonder if they would have had any access to those Vickers weapons he'd trained on.

The Vickers was in use until the 70s in other armies.
