Excellent work, Geoff. I like what you've done with the flying helmet, fur collar on the Irvin jacket, & highlights on the scarf.
Looks like another winner!

Many thanks Chris, yes I'm pleased with the way the flying helmet is coming on, still lots to do also with the fur collar as it's only had one coat of Citadel Flesh wash. The scarf has only had a single coat of base colour so more work to do on that.

I'm working my way down the figure, that way I can handle the body while painting as it is quite bulky.

Cheers
Geoff

How about this Stoke on Trent pilot, Geoff? He went to Hanley High School, which later moved premises and became Longton High School, where I first started to teach. The school colours were black scarf with thin amber/gold stripes.... There was a stained glass window dedicated to him at the school and the Head Boy and Head Girl placed a poppy wreath on it on Remembrance Day.

Sounds like a worthy son of the Potteries to me, Steve. I hadn't heard of him before, but he was an extremely brave man & obviously inspirational as a teacher too. RIP.

Excellent face Geoff and I like the look of the glasses as well. Also I think the idea of making the scarf in school colors is a good one.

Many thanks Guys, I like that idea of it being George Bennions with the Hanley High School scarf, I looked on Wiki and I think it would be nice to celebrate such a brave man as Chris said, so it is black scarf with amber stripes BUT are they across the Scarf or along the length??

Cheers
Geoff

Progress today so far,
Base coat to Irvin jacket, scarf painted new base colour ready for info on strips (shiny as paint still wet), fur given a coat of Citadel Earth Wash to darken it a bit as thought it was too orange.

He is finished and is done as a tribute to RAF pilot George Bennions DFC, and thanks to Valiant for the idea. (hope I have got the neck scarf OK).

George's wiki page is well worth a read,

Super bust and I enjoyed painting him.

Next on the bench will be one from Bonapartes, a 1/6th again, Coldstream Guards Officer 1815.

Spot on, Geoff! A fitting tribute to "Ben" Bennions... All of his flight logs, etc are in the City Museum and Art Gallery, here in Stoke on Trent, but not currently on display, due to them having an all-new Spitfire Gallery built. Top job!(y)

Many thanks V, I really appreciate that and your help in make a bust real.

Hi Geoff

I paint a aguilette ..you paint a full bust ! ......

Really looks good , nice touch with the scarf as well

Leather work good ...plenty of washes to bring out the sculpted texture ?

The hoghles and lens effect really work well

Look forward to a more colourful V bench next from you

Happy benchtime
