This was a classic piece when released all those years ago, this is a very good start tony and I'm looking forward to seeing how you complete this (y)

Hi guys,

It's bit a long time since I updated my WIP on this bust. I've been on holidays in Thailand recently and modelling activity prior to the holiday had slowed to a crawl, however I'm back from my break and ready to charge on.

As you can see I've taken on the challenge of painting a really detailed geometric pattern on the blanket, which I hope is a reasonably accurate depiction of a 1890's Navajo chief blanket design. Most of the work on the blanket took place on Saturday, but the most important part was laying out the shapes which I did last Friday night. There are loads of small details that will need to be touched up before I'm happy with it.

I still have the hat and the hat band to complete before adding the pipe and the feather in the hat band as the final details.

I hope you like it.

All looks great so far Tony.

I have to say the blanket is amazing...could you do a beaded pattern on the hat sweat band to 'balance' the vibrancy of the blanket colours?

The Mandan Blood warrior is on my list too.

Paul.

Thanks for all your comments guys, they are greatly appreciated.(y)

I spent last night tweaking the geometric patterns on the blanket to ensure as much as possible that all the patterns were symmetrical.:nailbiting: Compared to this pattern, tartan or camouflage patterns are easy.

I've also started to apply a wash of oils over the blanket to help add some depth to the colours and make the blanket look old and worn.

Hi Ranchhand, thanks for sharing the link. I actually got on the site and bought the Charlie's Woman bust last night as well.

Still working on the blanket, but starting to finalise some elements. I've spent the past couple of nights tinkering with the geometric patterns to hopefully create some symmetry.

I also applied the first pass of highlights over the blanket, in an effort to emphasise the texture of the blanket. Still more work to be done.

The blanket is now glued to the torso and the bust is glued to the base. Just the hat, the pipe and the feather to complete.

Great work on this classic Tony. The blanket is superb and I know from bitter first hand experience how tough it can be trying to get a clean pattern onto the texture that's cast into the resin. It seems to be just deep enough to cause multiple airbubbles when you try and paint thinned acrylics onto it, I ended up barely diluting the paint on mine to try and get decent coverage.

Tony, your old Indian looks far out! Love what you did on his blanket!(y)

Lamb and Flag have as yet to get back to me, but no worries, a fellow Planeteer came through for me. Should get mine any day.

Joe

Hi Nick, Thanks for your comments mate. I'm pretty happy with the way the blanket turned out. It was quite nerve wracking to start the process but once you get going there's nothing to do but see it through.

Hi Ranchhand, thanks for your comments.

Hi Harto, the texture on the blanket is both a blessing and a curse. It does present a few challenges in terms of painting straight lines, but once the washes and highlights are done it does add realism.

Hey Joe (sorry :)), thanks for your comments mate. I have ordered both busts from Lamb & Flag recently and they've been really good. I hope you enjoy your busts when they arrive.
