Hi Guys,

I have almost cleaned up the new Latorre figure (rifle brigade at Sevastopol) and the new WWI Stormtrooper by Andrea. For the Stormtrooper I would need to know if the camo on the head was painted free or were there regulations? What colours were used? For the Latorre figure I need colours for each piece of clothing, especially what isn't vissible on the boxart. Also I'm intrested in the conditions the battle was fought: muddy, dry, etc...

Many many thanks in advance,

Gino.

Gino - I have some stuff on this figure (it seems to be based on an Osprey print). I will look and see what I can send you.

regards

Colin

Hi Colin,

Many thanks in advance. It will save my life, or at least some years of it ;)

Gino, I've gone through my WWI materials, and as nearly as I can tell, the lozenge camo pattern on the Stahlhelm does not follow any set rules. All the pictures I can find show a different pattern on each helmet. I have one color photo in Stephen Bull's Stormtrooper with the following caption:

"The disruptive 'lozenge' camouflage pattern is of the type in use in 1918, with angular patches of green, rust brown, and yellow ochre divided by black lines."

A painting guide included with a Fusilier figure describes the colors as tan, brown, and dark green.

Artwork in Osprey's German Stormtrooper 1914-1918 shows some helmets in three colors as above, and some in four colors that appear to be a green, a brown, an orange or rust, and a tan or ochre (no written descriptions are given).

If you want any scans, let me know.

Gino, here are some pics of an M16 Stahlhelm painted in the lozenge pattern. I believe it's part of the collection at the Australian war memorial and was posted by Barry Crook on ML some time back
