hi there,
I`ve been using SMooth-On resins to cast minis and bits for quite a time. Unfortunately their prices at the local supplier in Poland reached the level I think I can`t afford. SO here comes the question: do you know any other supplier in Europe or alternative resin, with similar properties to SC300 and 320 series (not brittle, with some flexibility, non-transparent, low viscosity resin)?

Hi Przemas,

I use a resin by Sika. It's called biresin G27. It has a pot life of 2:15 mins, and demould is 20 mins. It will accomodate filler powders i.e Aluminium and Microdol etc. It will also accept pigments. I get it from my supplier, JohnBurn co, they are based in Birmingham England

www.johnburn.co.uk

They also have a number of different resins or all applications, because they sell resins to all industries across the world.

I feel sure they will e able to supply you with a resin that meets your requirements.

As for the price, it is £119.36 excluding VAT for 20kg which works out to £5.97 per kg.

I hope this helps a little.

Good luck.

Hello,

We also use Biresin in our company. We use Biresin G26 which has a longer potlife then G27 so it gives you some extra time to fill the moulds.

It is also much cheaper then Smooth On which is usually 30-35% more expensive then Sika Biresin.

I mostly order it from Modulor webshop in Germany (www.modulor.de). It´s a perfect shop with great service and it´s close to Poland!

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Olav

Hi Olav,

I also use G26 resin. I have been using these resin's for many years. In my opinion they are the most forgiving resin on the market. A great resin!!!

Whoa! Thx for replies - they are REALLY handy. So far haven`t heard about Sika resins. I`ve taken a look at techical data and G26, G28 resins look very promising (G27 propably too, as soon as I get new pressure chamber - currently I have only vaccuum chamber working).
One more question about them though. There`s one thing I really love about Smooth-On - it`s almost completely non-transparent. Thx to it, just after coloring it to light grey, all the details of the cast shows insanely well. Are the Sika resins that non-transparent as well?

Yes, Biresin is very forgiving, I made mixes of 70 to 30% (resin to hardener) and the other way around and it stil hardens!

Sika resin are very non transparent indeed, they harden to a very nice solid beige colour. You could use Modulors filler (microballoons) which gives the resin very good flowing characteristics and the cured resin sands and saws wonderfull. Trust me, you can't go wrong with this Sika stuff, we use 20 liter a month at the Reality in Scale workshop and never had any problems.

You will be very happy with your pressure chamber, beleive me. We do all our casting using pressure pots and it works great, there's only the occasional small airbubble left on some castings but 99% gets eliminated by the pressure.

Good luck!

Olav
