Hi Everyone.

I am starting a return to figure modelling after a 7yr absence, found this site after a search on the internet.
Recently bought some Miniart figures which look as though they have potential for a good figure.
Have read some of the articles already posted and found them interesting.

I have a question, I am going to use Vallejo acrylics for the first time when finishing figure, do the decals in these kits adhere correctly to this type of paint?

Any help much appreciated.

Derek

Hi Derek!

i have been using GW acrylics on a 1/9th motorbike, for decals i used a dab of klear to gloss the finish , applied the decals with decalfix and after drying matted them back down with windsor and newton galeria acrylic matt.... look loverly

hope that helps

Welcome Derek. In answer to your question, the model railroad and armour guys use a product called MicroSol and MicroSet over Vallejo acrylics. These are available at most hobby shops here in Canada. I would assume that they are there too.
1. I spray vallejo satin gloss over the area that the decal will sit and let it dry. (You can brush it on thinly on the figure).
2. While soaking the decal in water use a fairly wide brush and brush the Microset on the area where the decal is to go. This will actually soften the paint in preparation of the decal to sit.
3. Slide the decal onto the area and then gently brush with MicroSol. This will "soften" the decal. This stuff kind of shrinks the decal and it will adhere to paint and is great for forming around crevices and corners etc. Keep applying the set as it starts drying 3 or 4 times.
4. Lay a coat of Matt finish over the finished decal to protect it for when you weather and dust up the figure.
Off the top of my head I am pretty sure I have the above correct, but try websites such as Armorama etc for confirmation.
The manufactures name is Microscale. Click on the product number to get a true description. http://www.microscale.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=FINPROD

Hi Derek,

Welcome back to figure modelling mate and welcome to Planet Figure.

The simple answer to your question is YES.

Decals over acrylics are no more difficult to apply than on most other painted surfaces. I've made a couple of MiniArt figure kits before, and I should advise you that the decals can be a bit flimsy and tend to break up and tear easily, particualy when they are wet.

Many thanks for the warm welcome to everyone.

Thanks Gary re Micro sol products, used to use them many years ago on aircraft did not realise they were still available.

Thanks Tony for the info on decals being fragile will take that into account,

Derek
