peg British Light Dragoon, Officer 11th Regt..jpg

I have the Pegaso 11th Light Dragoon Officer shown, which I would like to paint as a RHA officer circa 1815. I know the RHA uniform pattern was based on the Dragoon model but being a Bonapartist, my British Uniform resources are limited ! On the face of it there seem few differences between the two, apart from the facing colours and sabretache. Mercer describes a great variety of officers dress, stemming from individual purchasing of uniform componants. Am I missing anything and are there any other essential problems that need to be resolved? Any pictorial help would be appreciated.

I suggest searching on the net for the David Greaves RHA officer for pictures - a golden oldie but there was a great example at Euromilitaire this year. Pegaso also manufactured an RHA officer and also a quartermaster at some time so that might be useful to look at too. The best of all though are the Franklin books if you can find someone who has copies of the Artillery and British Army Uniform books.

Cheers

Thanks for the help everyone, much appreciated. Nothing so far has indicated any great differences in the uniform itself (as opposed to colours or sabretache), so maybe it's a simple job after all. Thank you Huw. I have the Pegaso quartermaster figure but I didn't like their RHA officer, hence my decision to utilise the Dragoon.

I agree with you. I didn't like that figure either and so never bought it.

Hi. I looked this up using Franklin's books. It seems facing colours would have been red not white and the piping and lace gold for officers rather than silver for 11th Dragoons.

The Franklin book also shows a sabretache which is blue with GR surmounted by a gold crown in with red. He also mentions that Mercer refers to having worn one at Waterloo. Unfortunately this is based on description as no RHA sabretache has survived.

Good to see the Hinchliffe picture - bring back memories of their 75mm figures!

I don't see any significant issues to prevent the Light Dragoon Officer being used as an RHA Officer on campaign. In fact if it wasn't for the fact the figure's in 54mm I might very well have copied the idea perhaps alongside a gun & horse from Historex.

I've noticed that MMM are to release a bust of Captain Mercer sculpted by Moz Corry although that is depicted wearing the slung pelisse so might not be too much help here with the uniform detail.

Hi I hope this is not to late to be of some help.
My favourite source for anything british on a horse is Uniforms of the British army illustrated by Richard Simkin
Here's one illustration to help but there will be more I am sure.

The illustration shows full dress for 1793, 1815 and 1823.

The "advice" I would give would be go for it as you are but the uniform colours are as our illustrations.
Personally I would leave the sabretache off I think, it was expensive kit and I can't remember any illustration of it as a non-parade item.
There were so many variations of dress and method of wearing the same uniform.
Not just because they were supplied by personally instrucetd tailor,
but also to identify duty officer, field officer, adjutant officer, vetinary parades, walking out dress, levee dress and ball dress,
that no-one now could realisticaly say you are wrong !
Please post a piccie of the finished item
Regards paul

Blue coat, red facings, yellow/gold lace on jacket and boot tops, blue turban with yellow/gold ties... I've seen the plume as white and as white over red.
I think this fig would look good as an RHA officer.
