The chap with his foot pointing down with his foot too far in the stirrup was actually the best tent pegger. He had a wonderful Andalusian and showed it off with a bit of passage/piaffe and the Spanish Walk as well as getting it to salute and rear. An accomplished and highly skilled rider but not a perfect position with his feet.

Non Facebookers you should still be able to see the photos without joining. Have a look at my other albums, lots of other stuff for modellers.
So it's the best posture unless it isn't then?

Its simple Steve.
If you can stay on the bugger you have mastered a good posture.
If you fall off you had a bad posture so back to the drawing board.

You only ave to look at at jockey's riding posure. How the F--- do they stay on.

They stay on because they are totally airborne , their arse never meets the saddle

Somebody hung rose that may come as a shock for non riders. Often in a fast gallop you rise out of the saddle. You don't hang in the reigns or use them for support but have to maintain contact with the horse. Giving the reigns means a very light contact and tells the horse to go. This means you are standing on the stirrups and moving with the horse Supported by only your legs.

There are a few tricks if thing get a bit hairy. Grab the main, bridge the reigns over the horses neck or grab the neck strap if fitted. Good balance means you can cope with dangerous scary plastic bags which horses hate of fast moving pheasants.

Great fun and you need strong legs.
