Hi guys,

I am from the Netherlands.
Since quite a while I paint metal soldiers from the Roman era.
Which paintingoptions with acryl (Vallejo or Andrea) do I have for the Roman `lorica segmentata´? Is the colour like silver or metallic steel. Do the edges of that type of armourplate have got the brasscolour?
Please give me some tips?
Thanks.

best,
Dong-Shik

Lorica segmentata were iron or steel, with copper-alloy fittings (brass or bronze) and copper rivets.

I think the legionaries were required to keep the steel surface clean even on campaign, so a fairly bright steel colour would be realistic regardless of the setting the figure is in.

Hi dong Shik,
Well sure, legionaries polished often their armours, brushing with straw, because the material (iron or steel as said Einion) was poor and got oxide always.

Dong,

Groeten
Marc

Thanks for all the answers. Those links are superb!!!
Well, I am going to try it out and find out what will work the best.

I realized that I should have mentioned that while the re - enactors are interesting, the the shine on that "armor" is not realistic. ;)
