Very nicely painted Mark, beautifully handled textures giving lots of depth.
I don't usually like 'bright' armour but you've got in spot on (y)
Cheers

A beautifully painted bust.

I have never understood why this was marketted as a centurion when the crest is attached 'fore and aft'. Centurions had transverse crests. He is depicted wearing an Imperial Gallic helmet (in 180 A.D.?), and I wonder why virtually every Roman figure is so sculpted. Roman soldiers wore an assortment of helmets, such as the Coolus and Imperial Italic, but these are rarely seen modelled.

Happy modelling,

Mike

Better described as an Optio, yes? That was my original thought when it was released. They market the Imaginifier as an Signifier as well.
As far as the helmets go, its probably a combination of ignorance of other types and sub-variants of helmets and familiarity with the Imperial. It just screams "Roman". How about one of the late Empire ridge helmets encrusted with jewels? Now that would be different. Its the historical correctness/appropriateness vs. just being done well thing. Its a losing battle
I assume based on a couple of responses that the Lorica musculata would best be done in leather or bronze?

Could the breastplate be done in leather on this particular bust?
