From DF Military, a 200mm bust of a Roman hornblower. These guys used a 9’ brass horn to signal coded orders to troops. They all wore an animal headdress of one kind or another.

It’s shown on the ‘turned’ kit plinth but I’ve added a Model Display Products ‘distressed’ block plinth, as it will benefit from the extra height. The block plinth will be in a marble effect finish. I’ve nibbled the edge of the turned plinth to marry in at the edge of the larger base.

Kit currently discounted due to absence of shield (issue with mould availability) but there’s a nice sword that will be used.

Not many parts as such, but fit a little wonky in places. I used a few tiny strips of toilet tissue soaked in water/white glue and then shaped to match adjacent folds etc. Seems fine.

Anyway, we’ll see how it goes.

Hi Robbo

Good subject , quite dramatic as well

Using toilet tissue is a good idea once the glue hardens should be fine ......have you tried using a putty on others ?

Following with interest

Have FUN at the bench

Yes used to use a green putty that could be dissolved into crevices using lacquer thinner, but since I've come back to the hobby (well....ish), I've been going with dirt karma vibe and as low a carbon footprint as manageable.

Hope you guys appreciate my high tech photo. Sculpt on kitchen bin with side of fridge as backdrop.

Before I started on the figure I thought I’d tidy up the accoutrements, that is, the short sword and the shield.

The sword is nicely moulded, and being a sword I’ve kept the painting to utilitarian finishes. The shield, as mentioned above, was not available now as part of the kit for reasons noted, although the arm straps were included still. I decided to scratchbuild one….

Here, it’s kinda ready for paint. Not sure which route to take but have seen a few examples so may follow through with one of those or simply go with a three colour scheme.

I’ll post a photo of it when completed.

Cheers for now.

Looking good, not a bad idea starting the bits first, saves rushing them at the end, we'll I tend to anyway.

Cheers Simon

A quick post to show the scratchbuilt shield as complete. The grips on the reverse are one of the kit’s own (larger one, cut down a bit), and a hand grip from foil. I think the shield itself is tucked up by the side of the figure so nothing much of the reverse will show anyway.

Cheers for now.

Hi Robbo

Nice update on the shield , will look good in position

Are you planning a design on the shield perhaps ?

Looking forward to seeing more

Happy benchtime

Thanks. Was looking round for a skinny lion profile that I’ve seen but now can’t locate it. Not really a lot of room for it but also may consider a simple design graphic. Just glad to get the base unit completed.

Did a test template with lion on paper in same disc dimensions. Too much of lion body disrupted by boss etc. Now found a 'leaping hare' instead that I've painted freehand. Will post s photo after varnish dries later.

Big improvement I think, so thanks for suggestions for more decorative details.
