Hi again

Some more work has been done on the groundwork:
  1. Branches glued on.
  2. Sculpting of the roots.
  3. Sculpting of some bark at the base of the dead tree.
  4. Filling up of the spaces between the roots with Polyfilla ready to use filling paste and adding some smaller stones.

All sculpting was done with Magic Sculp.

Next I will work on the transition of the branches with the main trunk and adding even more branches.

A nice weekend to all!

Johan

that's gonna be a really fine base for the Roman.
Great to see a SBS on building such kind of bases with trees. For more triggering of the eye I should do the roots in some different ways instead of all going down the same way. (hope i make my self clear).
Let the pictures coming.

Hey Marc

I did that deliberately, to enclose the figure in the spectator's viewing line. Too many lines criss-crossing one another distract that line.
Johan

I see what you mean. But shouldn't you do not one in another direction? Just for the tension. I whas thinking about the right one for the vieuwers eye. Let it go 10 mm to the right, and do that knot away. Then you create a line that attracks the eye to the figure.

It are just my thoughts......

Hi Johan, I'm glad to see one piece of you again. I've always loved your style and patience on every detail. Love the colors too.
Are you visiting AMSS again?
Would like to meet you again.

Hi all

A little update on the groundwork. Still a lot to do but hope to get this ready for the AMSS show.

Although I initially said there would be no snow involved I have changed my mind. So when all paint is applied the whole will be sprinkled with a light coat of snow.

Sculpting wise I started with a little piece of dead wood I found in nearby park. Little roots serving as the branches were glued on as I saw fit. Rocks, rooting system and bark of the tree were done with Magic Sculp.
All paintwork is oils over acrylics.

As always, thanks for looking and constructive comments are most welcome.
