A warm thanks to all of you for commenting and liking!
It is very satisfying to get such nice feedback. I'm quite humbled by your response.
The helmet was an experiment that turned out well. Glad you like it, as it really is a focal point of this figure, next to the shield.
I wanted to achieve a 'new' look to the helmet, as inspired by re-enactor pictures.
I started by polishing the bare metal to the highest gloss I could achieve.
Next step was one (or two?) thin coats of Tamiya transparent yellow.
After proper drying, I added shades with the new Scale75 gold paints (very thinned, in several applications). These contain one tone that is slightly reddish which worked very well.
Then some outlining of the main features with dark brown (don't remember if I used burnt umber oils or Vallejo 822, but it doesn't make much difference).
Finally some highlights with Scale75 gold (lightest tones from the set) on the very top of the helmet and on some edges and rivets.
I had difficulty deciding whether or not to add a layer of gloss paint and never got round to it in the end. I think it is better without, looking back.
Attached are some close-ups of the helmet in progress.
Cheers,
Adrian
