Hi All
I was happy to hear that second series of the BBC/HBO TV program ‘ROME’ is soon to be shown on the UK TV channel BBC 2. I enjoyed the first series and thought it to be very well researched. But as ancient Rome is not my period of modelling interest I wondered what you Roman experts think?

PS
I thought what looked like a printed sweatshirt looked a bit dodgy, but a what do I know:)

Pete - I have a friend who has had a fascination with Rome and all things Roman since childhood. The guy has hundreds and hundreds of references and can quote a lot of fascinating details about the period, the Legions, typical day to day life, etc. So - I sorta take him as an expert in Roman stuff. Me - whaddaIknow? Anyways, he says the series is bona fide accurate and extraordinarily well-researched - as in - he's seen the whole first series, watched each show multiple times and seen no mistakes.

All the best,
Dan

Thanks

Hi Dan
Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I have watched the first series a few times to and thought it looked about right, I am glad your friend can confirm this. I find it a good combination of BBC serious drama and HBO sex.

I'm also watching the 2nd series. Only seen up to about episode 3, and I must say it's alot bloodier than the first. And perhaps darker in the sense of Verilius descending into his personal hell at having killed his wife and deserting Julius.

A mate of mine's wife reckons the scenery is pretty accurate when she compares it to her visits to Rome and Pompeii...

Apart from the accuracy, the plot is great :) Plenty of twists and turns.

Thanks

Hi Tarok
So Rome series two is on in South Africa already, and not in the UK yet. The UK is behind the times as usual. I will watch and enjoy it for what it is a good drama. Thanks for the feedback.

Hi Peter,

Actually, it's not on the cheaper state controlled stations. It's only available to satellite media subscribers.

In my case though, a mate of mine managed to get the entire series from the States. I guess someone recorded it to DVD for his contact... you know how these things go ;)

Rudi :)

I've seen both the first and second seasons of Rome, and they were both very enjoyable and IMHO historically accurate. I wish a third season was on the way, but that is not to be. Let's enjoy what we have. Amazon has the DVDs for both the first and second seasons, so no need to wait for the networks if you're a fan.

Cheap

Hi PJ
Thanks for your feedback. Yes I will buy the second season DVD for the great Special Features (if they are as good as the first) but I will wait untill the price is right. (cheap or what).
