Hello,
Some pics of my progress on Romeo Models 90 mm gladiator Provocator. Sergey Popovichenko's version inspired me to do this one. I love his muted realistic painting style. I hope my efforts to make the metal look corroded is going to pay off. For reality's sake (well ...... that is according to my personal views on that subject) I also decided to make the gladius appear well 'used'. Yes I know it was used for stabbing..... . Painting in oils and metalwork in printersink mixed with oil paint.
A large scale = a LOT of work. Seems to take forever to finish the subcomponents........ pffffff. I am almost ready to start painting the torso however.
I also took my inspiration for the shield design from Sergey's version ( I already confessed to him).
By the way: if you select a picture and click 'view pic' you get the image in the right position and you can blow it up.
The design was painted freehand. Normally I would make an airbrush template for some of the basic shapes to assure symetry.
I applied a thin coat of Mr Sangyo acrylic matt varnish on the grey - blue (indigo) basic shield colour before painting the white patterns.
Feel free to let me know what you think of my efforts sofar.
Cheers Paul
