Hi all

I have a little problem with this figure : http://www.pegasomodels.it/productdetails_en.asp?id=470#

I don't understand how come the parts painted in blue are actually blue. They look like steel plates to me and should be 'painted' as metal parts, no ? Or maybe I'm missing something. I tried to find online some paintings/drawings of a knight like him but without any luck.

Also I have the same problem with the legs, they are painted brown maybe to represent leather ??? Actually these look like metal plates to me ... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you !

I think these were supposed to be coloured leather with metal stud work! you could always paint them as leather? coloured leather will be fine. (y)

so any coloured leather could do ... never knew actually that they painted leather back then ... we learn something everyday !

hello
this was called CUIR BOILIEU-means BOILED LEATHER.therefore one did boil leather in bees wax and pressed it in forms.in italy as germany to the 1350 ties it was very common.the lather was tanned in an colour of choice not painted then boiled.
it ws used for the helmet crest as well because it was very light.when later the full metallgrieves and armpieces where developed those items did chease to be used because metal was more stout and provided better protection.
again want not sound nosy.but its my special interest as ancient weapon collector.
cheers

Thank you Pinsel for this information. The more I have the better the figure will be. By any chance, do you have any link to a picture of such piece of armor ?

Thank you

Alessandro

Another thing that was done (thus the rivets) was to rivet strips of metal to the leather. For a knight, it is entirely likely that the grieves and the Boots in this case would be colored. But being that they are leather this is a great opportunity to for sweat stains etc...
